WEED - 1971 (W.GERMANY) EX+/M- (cover/vinyl) Laminate Cover Gatefold PHILIPS RECORDS 6305 096 D original GRAIL, BRILLIANT, MUSEUM QUALITY, KILLER TOP, BOHEMIA, BOMBA, ULTRA RARITAT!!!!!!!!!

An incredibly rare and unique project by Ken Hensley, the frontman and leader of the legendary URIAH HEEP band. The story and Ken himself is silent about this ingenious creation, but the information still "leaked", in 1970 the couple cracked, divorced his wife, later she sued him and left him penniless, he went to Germany to earn extra money, taking with him previously accumulated ideas, since in the band reacted coldly to his new material (only the Germans liked LADY IN BLACK, they made it almost an anthem, but not like the British, who rave only about progressive). Ken met with the German band VIRUS, which played in the style of "kraut" and offered them cooperation. In this album, you will find no mention anywhere that Ken Hensley wrote the music and lyrics, but it does not just smell, but wildly "stinks" of them ..., there are two versions of why he did this, 1) this is a contract signed with the band 2) money was urgently needed and taxes were not wanted, Another name is indicated as the songwriter (B. Albes) by the way, the album cover deserves special attention, partly a disgusting, middle-aged housewife (house wife) with a horse grin, offers you a kind of weed of unknown nature (marijuana) and there is also no photo of Ken on the spread.
It is a pity that Ken did not do anything like this after and does not want to do it in the future (I have asked him this question more than once). Before URIAH HEEP, Ken Hensley participated in three more projects - these are THE GODS, HEAD MACHINE - orgasm, TOE FAT. I think this is my opinion, WEED is the best thing he has created in his entire life, despite the wonderful album LOOK AT YOURSELF released in 1971, after which no one in the band had a shadow of a doubt that Hensley was a GENIUS, in my opinion he threw everything out in this project what hurt his soul during this difficult period, and it's not for nothing that they say that the best, brilliant, unique thing is born in pain or in hard times.
A little bit about the WEED project: Hensley finally realized all his ideas that were not given to him in the URIAH HEEP band, he deployed the full breadth of his talent acting as a keyboardist, guitarist, composer and vocalist at the same time. There is almost nothing left of Kraut, who performed Virus, but it is this "almost", combined with a heavy blues sound, that gives the record an unforgettable experience. The album was recorded in Hamburg (West Germany) at the Windrose-Dumont Time Studio in March 1971. On the record, a certain Bodo Albes is listed as the songwriter - that's the name of the furniture store in Duisburg, but it's quite possible that this is just the pseudonym of the author, and for sure it's Ken Hensley himself. Summary: this record is an ornament for any collector.
